Botulinum Toxin
It is best known as the most potent poison, its main function is to cause muscle paralysis. It is produced by an anaerobic bacterium called Clostridium Botilinum which in turn is formed by the botulinum neurotoxin. There are seven serotypes of botulinum toxin that go from A to G but only types A and B are used in the therapeutic area. When this toxin is injected, certain nerve signals that cause contraction of the muscles are blocked. The effect of the botulinum toxin lasts approximately 3 to 6 months, then the skin relaxes again and the wrinkles reappear.
